Karen Stensrud

SALT LAKE CITY — Karen Stensrud of North Dakota has been honored as the individual Sweepstakes Award winner in the 2013 National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest.

Stensrud, vice president of marketing and communications for Bell State Bank and Trust in Fargo, N.D., received nine awards in the national communications contest, including four first place awards. As the top award winner in the communications contest, she received a $250 in cash and a beautiful plaque, according to Gwen Woolf of Virginia, NFPW contest chair.

Stensrud has been a member of NFPW for 20 years. In 2010, she was selected as Communicator of Achievement, the top honor NFPW bestows upon a member. One member of the national organization is selected for this honor each year.

Tammy Keith of Arkansas and Debbie Miller of Arkansas tied for the second place Sweepstakes Award. They each were awarded $125.

The affiliate Sweepstakes winner for having the most national award winners was Virginia. The Virginia affiliate was awarded $100.

The winners were among 273 recipients from across the country receiving 374 awards for excellence in communications at the organization's awards banquet in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A distinguished group of 34 professional journalists, communications specialists and educators from 16 states judged 635 entries in a wide variety of categories. Only first-place winning entries at the state level were eligible to enter the national contest. All entries were published or broadcast between Jan. 1, 2012, and Dec. 31, 2012.
