Sunday, Sept. 3 to Tuesday, Sept. 5 — Three-day pre-conference tour, Rockin' Rockets, will have you experiencing weightlessness at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center's Adult Space Camp, touring the Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, rocking to the music of The Muscle Shoals' Swampers, visiting Helen Keller's birthplace and eating soul food and haute cuisine.

Wednesday, Sept. 6 — Half-day tour to the University of Alabama's digital media center.

Thursday morning, Sept. 7 — Take a morning tour of Birmingham's Civil Rights District. We will be back to the conference hotel in plenty of time for the afternoon's opening sessions.

Thursday, Sept. 7 to Saturday, Sept. 9 — NFPW 2017 Conference headquartered at the DoubleTree Hotel near the University of Alabama at Birmingham amid a plethora of eateries. The star-studded conference will include a celebration of NFPW's 80th anniversary, and workshops on creative non-fiction with Pulitzer-prize winning author Rick Bragg; how to talk about your book on television; copyrights and trademarks; monetizing your blog; tightening your writing for busy readers; the future of community newspapers; changes in the AP Stylebook, and a panel on covering racially-charged events and situations.

Sunday, Sept. 10 through Wednesday, Sept. 13 — Four-day post-conference literary pilgrimage tour through cities and towns where famous Alabama authors such as Harper Lee, Mark Childress, Fannie Flagg, Martin Luther King Jr., Hank Williams, biologist E.O. Wilson and F. Scott Fitzgerald lived and worked. It will include a safari through the Mobile Tensaw Delta, considered the Amazon of North America, and a visit to Alabama's gleaming, white-sand Gulf Coast beaches.
