Joining NFPW
Membership in NFPW is a solid investment in your career, providing opportunities to develop your professional skills, receive recognition for your work, network with peers, protect the First Amendment, and nurture the next generation of communicators.
When you join NFPW, you also join the state affiliate (if available). Some affiliates require work samples to be submitted with the application. If your state doesn't have an NFPW affiliate, you may join as an at-large member.
See below for more good reasons to join and instructions for submitting your application.

How to Join
Sign up now and start networking! When you're a member of NFPW, you'll have supportive colleagues and friends throughout the nation. Just follow these simple steps:
1. Choose membership level:
- Professional: Any communicator actively engaged in any aspect of communications for remuneration.
- Student: Students enrolled full- or part-time in a college or university communications program or related field; and those working in the communications field who are enrolled in classes.
- Retired: NFPW members in good standing for at least five years who no longer receive substantial remuneration for work in the communications field.
- At-large: Communicators living in a state with no NFPW affiliate. At-large members pay only national dues in the professional, student or retired category, and may compete as an at-large entrant in the annual communications contest.
2. Select an affiliate and confirm requirements
Check our list of state affiliates to find one near you. Contact the affiliate to introduce yourself and confirm requirements for membership. Some require work samples to be submitted with the application. You'll compete in the affiliate’s communications contest and are eligible to participate in the affiliate’s activities.
3. Calculate dues total
Check the state dues chart (below) to calculate your total NFPW, state, and local chapter (Kansas only) dues. (At-large members pay only national dues.) Our dues cycle is based on the calendar year. If you join between April and August, you'll receive a $20 coupon toward the following year's dues when you renew. If you join between September and December, dues paid will cover the entire following year
