Sunshine Week is upon is!
NFPW encourages full participation by our members as part of our commitment to encouraging open and transparent government. The public deserves no less from its officials and governmental entities from the local to the state to the national level.
Open and transparent government is essential to our democracy. After all, information IS power. The more information we have on things that effect our lives, safety and general well-being the better.
Public meetings and open access to records are essential to letting the sunshine in.
So during the week of March 14-20, NFPW encourages you to do something as Sunshine Week promoters say “to engage in a discussion about the importance of open government.”
You can play a part whether it be writing an op-ed piece, an editorial, a news story highlighting access problems in your area, sponsoring a forum or embarking on a classroom discussion.
Join with us as we focus on an issue on which we should be ever-vigilant all year long.
